Diatomacous Earth is a powder used to control insects as well as used in the building industry.
Diatomaceous earth is not poisonous; it does not have to be eaten in order to be effective.
Diatomaceous earth causes insects to dry out and die by absorbing the oils and fats from the cuticle of the insect’s exoskeleton.
Its sharp edges are abrasive, speeding up the process.
Most commonly used in a beetle tray underneath the hive.
Place into the beetle tray and cover the entire area.
The beetle will then come along and die accordingly.
Check yiour beetle trays weekly to ensure the diatomacou earth does not have moisture in it.
It needs to be dry in order to be effective.
Replace once the powder has become crusty.
This also works for killing mites, fleas & lice for chickens.
Rub all over the chicken. (on top, under the wings, on the breast, etc).
Clean out cages, place new bedding inside and place diatomacous earth on top of the bedding.
The chickens will use this for a dust bath.
Repeat treatment weekly until there is no signs of mites, lice or fleas.
