An ideal size box is the most popular method of producing and selling honey comb.
The box is a smaller size therefore the bees will fill it quickly.
Beekeepers also use this size if the full depth is too heavy for them. We use this as a honey super only.
A honey super is a box that is placed on top of the brood box for the bees to put honey in.
Making sure you place the queen excluder between these boxes to ensure the queen doesnโ€™t lay upstairs.
Generally you have full depth two honey supers per hive. In this case you can have up to 4 Ideal Honey Supers on top of the brood box. You are also able to mix and match box sizes for your honey. This give a place for the bees to collect and store honey.
2 ideal boxes are equivalent to 1 full depth box.
Once the box is full of honey and capped, you take the honey away and extract it. Then placing the box back on to repeat the process.
